Rose’s Quilted Market Tote Bag is a large quilted tote bag with leather straps and optional recessed zipper closure, perfect to take on a shopping trip.
This quilted tote bag features a foam stabilizer core which is fabulous for maintaining shape, I just love it. I quilted the front and back of the tote with simple wavy lines.
I used my walking foot to easily quilt the front and back panels.
There is a wide band around the top of the tote that allows for the optional recessed zipper. Notice the special detail in the top-stitching.
The sides of the tote wrap around the front and back, so there is no side seam.
And the bottom is an oval shape which helps the tote keep its shape.
There are a couple options for closing this tote. Close the tote with a simple magnetic snap or make it with a recessed zipper panel.
Easily insert the recessed zipper panel when attaching the top band.
Inside the tote there is a single welt pocket which is so simple to make and uses an accent fabric to stand out a bit.
To top it all are the leather straps. Don’t you love the clean lines of these straps and their connection to the tote?
I used two 10mm double head rivets for each end of the strap and my rivet press to attach them. I think it really sets it off and gives the tote a classy touch.
Make this quilted tote bag with several different coordinating fabrics, it’s my favorite way to make it.
I purchased Waverly prints at Wal-Mart to make the quilted tote bag on the left and fun prints from Pioneer Woman, also purchased at Wal-Mart, for the tote on the right.
Rose’s Quilted Market Tote Bag measures 16″ across the widest point and is 12″ tall. It is almost 6″ deep. And when using 24″ leather straps, the handle drop is about 10″.
This pattern is intended for intermediately skilled bag makers, those comfortable sewing through several thicknesses, using foam stabilizer and installing zippers. It requires a rivet attaching tool as well.
