This pattern includes a fabric bucket set of 3. They are so fun. I love combining different fabrics to match or contrast my home decor. And they are so useful too. I use them to hold remnants, and yarn and all sorts of things.
I created this fabric bucket set pattern in 3 graduated sizes. They fit inside each other, but you won’t want to do that, you’ll want to fill them up.
These can be made with different options. You can use round piping or flat piping if you choose, or none at all. You can have a single piece side or a 12 piece side, with handles or without.
I used quilt weight cottons to make most of these, but I have also used a home decor fabric too. You can choose how heavy a stabilizer and interfacing you want to use, knowing heavier products may make a sturdier bucket, but also will be harder to work with.
After writing the instructions I changed things a bit by adding flat piping between the pieces on the side. You won’t find that in the instructions, but it’s easy.
What’s flat piping? It is just a bias strip cut as if you are going to make your own piping except you press it in half instead. I cut my pieces 1 1/4″ wide which gives about 1/8″ reveal. And actually, you really don’t need to cut bias strips for this application. To use it like I did, just press your strip in half lengthwise and line up the raw edges between your side pieces.
One thing I noticed when making these buckets is the shape of the bucket made with a single piece side is shaped slightly differently. That’s probably due to the fact that my seams aren’t exactly perfect, so there could be some variances. It isn’t a big difference, but I think it’s enough to not want to make some of this set with pieced sides and some with solid sides if they are meant to go together. I would choose to make the whole set either pieced or solid.
I’m sure you will want to make a bunch of these.
Here’s what you need:
fabric: cottons, cotton blends, home decor or similar fabrics. I used 3 coordinating fabrics
interfacing: I used Pellon 911FF fusible featherwight
fusible fleece: I used Pellon 987F
nylon webbing: for handles, this is optional, something like this
piping: ready-made or handmade. this is optional, but if you do decide to use it and make it yourself, I suggest using a piping foot for your machine
thread and basic sewing supplies. The machine I used for this project is the Brother SE400 sewing machine
